Streaming Screams

The most wonderful time of the year has arrived! The days are growing shorter. The leaves are beginning to turn. The shadows lengthen and cries of "Trick or treat!" will soon fill the air! It's Spooky Season is here and Halloween rapidly approaches! This year we kick off our celebration with a very interesting movie, an obscure horror comedy from 1991 that aims to be one part Halloween and one part Animal House:
HAUNTEDWEEN
We'll talk about the creativity of combining horror with 80s college sex comedy, rack to runtime ratios, relationship complications in horror, weird voices, and refusing to let kids work in the haunted house! Along the way we'll talk about costumes, positive entertainment, Haute and Freddy and college sex comedy tropes.
So, is this movie a spooky season treat, or a wicked trick?

The days finally begin to shorten and cool off a bit as summer begins to give way to fall. And so, too, our Summertime Madness series comes to a close. We're ending on a strong note with the kinda gross, very funny, classic horror comedy of the early 00s:

A bizarre thing has happened in the world of The X-Files recently, Chris Carter has released a brand new cut of I Want to Believe, the divisive and often maligned movie that came out years after the series had ended. He created this cut with the intention of re-focusing the movie on the horror story as opposed to the relationship. Both of us watched the show (and honestly, Glenn was one of those kinda weird X-Files people), so when we found out about this movie, we knew that we wanted to watch it right away. So here we go with this bonus episode where we discuss The X-Files, I Want to Believe - Vrach FrankenshteynWe'll talk about the changes that were made, the feel of the movie, the philosophical attempt to draw a parallel between Scully as a doctor and the villainous doctor by correlating them to Frankenstein. Alright alright alright! Summer is winding down, finally! For the penultimate part of our Summertime Madness series, we're closing out the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre series:

We'll be joined by our special guest, transgender filmmaker, Katie, who brings a unique perspective to this classic. We'll talk about John Waters coded aunts, curling irons, the cruelty and crudeness of adolescence, frantic energy, sleazy camp workers, and gender expression and identity.
